Messy Studio Solutions
Studio Storage
Maintaining your space as your practice grows affects everyone, even though very can keep their space organized. Oasis Skateboard Factory has has a 100 sq ft studio space but is constantly cycling through students, projects and equipment, creating a hording problem. We spent 3 months interviewing and codesigning with the students to create a holistic solution to their overcrowded space. The final result was a plan to declutter space and implement affordable, modular storage designs to maximize the the potential the studio space had. This plan lead to a safe classroom and workspace, reduced faculty workload, students gaining manufacturing experience, an improved educational environment, and spaces to expand on what the studio space provides like content creation and design spaces.

Part 1
Decluttering map
To reduce stress from decision making and avoid hoarding.
Impact
Reducing clutter in the classroom has a system that students can also partake in. Teachers can also assign this as a task to students as part of their mission to provide education through natural life skills. This creates a clean classroom while increasing responsibilities and autonomy for students in the classroom. This will also clean out the storage rooms of tools, old assignments and paperse for later in the revamp plan.
Part 2
Shelving Units
Shelving units that can change and adapt throughout the year based on the project students are working on.
Impact
With 20 students in a classroom there are many high traffic areas. This also creates wall storage for long term projects, jackets, and bags clearing up floor space.
Part 3
Tool Shed
With the storage rooms clean after part 1 one of them can turn into a shed for power tools that need to be locked away from students. This also functions as a space to add proper ventilation for wood shavings and off gassing spray painted projects.
Impact
Currently the room is used for storing tools that students don't use. Skateboards are also off gassing outside of the building which becomes difficult in the winter. Students can now comfortable do this inside year round.
Part 4
Independent Workspace
This storage room would become a study space with desks and chairs where students can focus on subjects like math and science, or film voice overs.
Impact
Currently the students have to go into the community centre's library for a quiet space but recently the network changed so the wifi doesn't reach that far outside of the classroom.
